10/01/2011 - Braces Beware: Halloween Treats Can Be Tricky!

Fox 5 Las Vegas

Dr. Alana Saxe from Saxe Orthodontics has advice for parents on the problems Halloween candy can present to children with braces.

Halloween tends to be one of the busiest times of the year at orthodontists’ offices, especially when patients bite into an ooey-gooey gob of trouble. Candy that is chewy or sticky can damage braces and other appliances used to straighten teeth. So before your kids end up with a broken bracket, Saxe Orthodontics has tips to celebrate the holiday without scaring up additional costs.

“I want my patients to have a great time on Halloween, says Dr. Alana Saxe, DMD. "The good news is there are plenty of treats they can still eat such as chocolate, peanut butter cups… basically the softer candies. But patients with braces need to avoid eating anything hard, sticky, or crunchy.”

03/17/2011 - Congratulations DR. Saxe 40 Under 40 Recipient

When Dr. Alana Saxe moved to Nevada in 1995, it was to take a position as a registered nurse at University Medical Center's Burn Intensive Care Unit. But while she enjoyed providing care to burn victims, her heart was in orthodontics.

“I think every kid that gets braces, it’s such a life changing experience for them that we all become fascinated with it,” she says. “To have had these horrible buck teeth and have them turn into a great smile was an incredible experience for me.”

In 2002, Saxe graduated from UNLV’s School of Dental Medicine, also receiving a specialty certificate in orthodontics and dento-facial orthopedics. By 2006, she had her own practice in an office environment that was built with sustainability in mind. Saxe’s office is paperless, has countertops and carpet made of recycled materials, VOC (volatile organic compound)-free paint, among many other green touches. She even uses organic gauze and digital x-rays.... Read more

By Amanda Llewellyn

Spring Valley View

Some people say a smile is worth a thousand words.

Beauty will get you far in life.

These sayings might be clichés -- but orthodontist Alana Saxe, practitioner and owner of Saxe Orthodontic, 3555 S. Town Center Drive, Suite 104, believes both statements to be true.

Saxe, who has been practicing in Las Vegas since 2006, decided this year to offer a break to kids whose parents might not make enough money to pay for braces but don't qualify for government medical assistance. That's when she and her team devised the "I deserve free braces because..." essay contest. Read more

03/02/2010 - Orthodonist uses monkeys to get message across to kids

By Jan Hogan

Summerlin View

Orthodontist Alana Saxe grew up on a walnut farm in Modesto, Calif. It was a community that fostered a mindset of helping others. When someone was moving, friends chipped in. Come harvest time, everyone helped out. When she moved to Summerlin in 1994, she brought that attitude with her.

Now, she's begun a program called Brush Monkey. It helps teach children the proper way to brush their teeth. The idea began with her own family...Read more
